Blowing in the Wind


Near Clinton, Iowa is this industrial plant on the southwest side of town. I don't know if it is a power plant or manufacturing facility. At this time of year, grey clouds, stiff winds and leafless trees reinforce winter's grip on the Midwest. Spring comes on March 20. We shall see.

Smoke Underlined


Saturday was a great day for photography. A smokestack at an ethanol plant on the west side of Dyersville, Iowa shows just how windy the westerlies were blowing. While the contrast of white smoke, silver stack and blue sky made for an interesting composition, those power lines made no positive contribution to the scene. Maybe some talented artist can Photoshop the lines away.

Lunar Smoke At First Quarter


Today the Moon reaches first quarter illumination as seen from these parts. Our nearest celestrial neighbor dodges fast moving smoke from the Heat Plant at Mt Vernon, Iowa's Cornell College. Full moon occurs next Wednesday, January 19th. Know that.
