Buddy Holly Barn Charm

A huge pair of iconic Buddy Holly eye glasses frame a Clear Lake, Iowa barn and farmland. Holly's glasses mark a trail from the gravel road to the site of the February 3rd, 1959 plane crash that took the lives of Holly, the Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens and pilot Roger Peterson. A dirt path follows the fence line for about a half mile to the place where Holly's plane came to rest just a few miles north of Clear Lake. Memorials to the singers and pilot are placed at the site.

  1. That's cool of the owners to allow access to their property for the memorial... thanks for posting & joining =)

  2. Fascinating! I like how a traditional red barn and farm setting can be seen through the one lense. "The Day the Music Died" was a big hit my senior year of high school. It's nice that they have set aside the spot.

  3. I remember the day Buddy Holly died. I had seen him, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens perform a week before they died. So tragic. Buddy Holly was one of my favorites. I still have an LP of his music called the Buddy Holly Story.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and your nice comment.

  5. Very creative shot - I love the barn framed with the glasses. I'm also sorry that I missed your American Gothic barn post a few weeks ago. I posted one this week in Vermont, but I think the painting on yours is much more colorful. Have a great week!

  6. A really cool picture. I remember this crash although I wasn't into that kind of music then.
For that picture of the Mourning dove I used my Nikon CoolPix camera and it has a 26X optical zoom wide lens. It was taken on one of my bird feeders which is about 4-5 ft. from my computer room window. I LOVE that camera!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful rest of the day.
